Recent weather maps from WXCharts project the possibility of blizzard conditions hitting the UK again mid-next week. Snow is expected to start accumulating over elevated areas on Wednesday, January 7, spreading across the country and intensifying overnight into Thursday.
Predictions suggest that snow depths could reach up to 27cm (10.6 inches) on higher ground, with the Lake District expected to experience the deepest snow drifts. Areas in the South West may be spared from significant snowfall.
The afternoon of Thursday, January 8, is expected to see substantial snow accumulations across a wide area of England, with cities like Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Preston, Leeds, York, and Manchester likely to witness heavy snowfall.
Other parts of the UK are also expected to see snow settling, with even southern areas such as Hastings projected to receive a few centimeters of snow cover according to the charts.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued warnings of snowy conditions later in the week, stating that snow showers will increase on Thursday as strong northerly winds pick up. Snow accumulations are anticipated across various regions, with some areas likely to see significant snow depths by Friday morning.
The Met Office has updated its Yellow snow and ice warning for several regions across the UK for Thursday and Friday, including Central, Tayside and Fife, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar, Orkney and Shetland, and Strathclyde.
