Celebrities at the Golden Globes red carpet criticized President Donald Trump and ICE immigration officers for their involvement in the tragic death of a mother of three in Minnesota.
Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for his roles in Marvel movies, led the charge against the Republican president at the star-studded event in Los Angeles. Ruffalo and actress Wanda Sykes showcased pins that read “ICE out” and “be good.”
The pins were in reference to the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer, under controversial circumstances that have highlighted the divisions in America. Video footage showed Renee driving towards the ICE officer before being shot.
The ICE officer fired three shots, resulting in Renee’s death, and subsequently used derogatory language towards her. The US government defended the officer’s actions, claiming he feared for his life, although the situation remains unclear as Renee seemed to be driving away from him.
Ruffalo dedicated his message to Renee Nicole Good, condemning Trump’s actions and court cases. He criticized Trump’s disregard for international law and labeled him a convicted felon and rapist.
In 2023, Trump was found liable for the sexual abuse of writer E Jean Carroll, among other allegations of sexual misconduct. Ruffalo described Trump as the “worst human being” and expressed concerns about his moral values leading the country.
Comedian Sykes also voiced her opposition to the Trump administration, emphasizing the need to speak up against their actions. She called for the shutdown of what she referred to as a rogue government mistreating people.
While some conservative voices criticized Ruffalo’s remarks, many praised him for speaking out. A Twitter user with a significant following commended the actor for being on the right side of history and echoed the sentiments shared by Ruffalo.
