Vladimir Putin donned a military uniform to signal his preparedness for continued conflict as Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Florida for peace discussions with Donald Trump.
The Russian president was observed at an undisclosed command center, delivering false reports about Russian advancements on the front lines and declaring the intention to persist in the war unless Ukraine yielded to his terms. Concurrently, Moscow faced significant disruptions at Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports, impacting over 300 flights, including those typically used by Putin. Additionally, a major oil refinery and power plant in Russia’s Samara region were engulfed in flames.
This marked the fourth occasion in two months that Putin appeared in military attire to receive updates from his military officials in underground bunkers, seemingly aiming to impress Trump during his meeting with Zelensky. Putin emphasized the use of armed force to achieve objectives if Ukrainian authorities did not seek a peaceful resolution, particularly demanding that Ukraine cede territory in the Donbas region, making it susceptible to potential Russian incursions.
Despite Putin’s claims of military successes and territorial gains, including alleged captures of certain cities, the Ukrainian armed forces swiftly refuted these assertions as falsehoods. They accused the Kremlin of spreading misinformation and clarified that the Ukrainian Defense Forces maintained defensive positions and repelled enemy forces.
Amidst the conflict, Russia conducted airstrikes on the Ukrainian port of Odesa, while Putin’s display of strength alongside his commanders coincided with statements from pro-Russian sources rejecting any peace plan acceptable to Ukraine.
As the stakes escalated, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that Western troop deployments in Ukraine could be targeted by Russian forces, setting the stage for crucial talks between Trump and Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
