“Dolly Parton’s Iconic Story Hits Broadway”

Dolly Parton’s journey from humble beginnings to fame has inspired her music, a theme park, a podcast, and now a musical set to hit Broadway later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the production aims to authentically depict Dolly’s life experiences and the impact of her songs. In a video announcement, the 80-year-old singer assured viewers that the musical will capture the essence of her true story, focusing on her struggles, triumphs, and personal growth.

The Broadway show will feature a mix of new songs created specifically for the musical and some of Dolly’s iconic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Scheduled to kick off on December 7 in New York City, the performances are slated to run until November 21, 2027.

Expressing her excitement, Dolly shared that seeing her story come to life on Broadway is a lifelong dream fulfilled, as she approaches nearly seven decades in the music industry. With over 3,000 songs to her credit and more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, Dolly’s legacy includes inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The musical debuted in Nashville last summer to a sold-out six-week run at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher praised the audiences’ profound connection with Dolly, emphasizing how she has touched and inspired countless lives with her music.

The production promises an unfiltered portrayal of Dolly’s life, going beyond the glitz and glamour she is known for, as “rhinestones were never her whole story.” Tickets for the show will be available to the public starting on Friday, July 10.
