Beloved Art Store Clarkes of Sussex to Close After 40 Years

Shoppers were saddened by the news that Clarkes of Sussex, a long-standing family-owned art and stationery store, will be permanently closing its Burgess Hill location in West Sussex after more than 40 years of operation. The store is set to shut its doors in April, although an exact closing date has not been specified. Customers who have been loyal to the store over the years have expressed their sorrow at the announcement.

The closure was announced by Jay Patel, the owner of Clarkes of Sussex, through a heartfelt message on social media. Patel expressed mixed emotions about the decision, acknowledging the community’s kindness, loyalty, and the relationships formed over the decades of service. The store had previously closed its Brighton branch last year after 25 years in business. Despite the closure in Burgess Hill, Clarkes of Sussex still has other stores in different locations across Sussex, including in Haywards Heath.

In his message, Patel thanked customers for their unwavering support and emphasized the significant impact they had on his life. He expressed gratitude for the relationships built and memories shared, acknowledging that while a chapter was closing, the connections forged would always hold a special place. Patel concluded by wishing customers happiness, good health, and success in their future endeavors.
