In a significant development, key members of the Royal Family of Norway have chosen to address the situation surrounding Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who is facing a trial featuring 32 charges, including allegations of rape and domestic violence against multiple individuals.
While the family had initially maintained a low profile regarding Marius’s legal issues, they have now decided to speak out. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Crown Prince Haakon, King Harald, and Queen Sonja have all shared their thoughts on the matter.
Addressing the accusations against her son, Crown Princess Mette-Marit expressed her distress over the serious nature of the allegations and dismissed claims suggesting that she had alerted Marius about his impending arrest through a phone call. “Being accused of such grave offenses has been extremely challenging for me, especially since I am innocent of those charges,” she stated in an interview with The Times.
Furthermore, Crown Princess Mette-Marit emphasized that the family had taken proactive steps by seeking professional assistance for Marius, countering any assertions that they had not treated the situation seriously. She acknowledged the emotional toll of being a parent and the tendency for self-blame in such circumstances.
Regarding the ongoing scrutiny and severity of the allegations against Marius, Crown Princess Mette-Marit underscored the family’s belief in allowing the legal system to handle the matter appropriately before commenting further. King Harald added that while it was impossible to prepare for the trial, the Royal Family would face the outcome with fortitude.
Marius’s trial dates have been set, with proceedings scheduled to take place at the Oslo District Court from February 3 to March 14 next year. The charges against him include alleged rape, domestic abuse, violence, making threats, and traffic violations.
