Canada’s Sophia Jensen secured her first-ever world title at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships in PoznaĆ, Poland. The 24-year-old athlete hailing from Chelsea, Que., triumphed in the women’s C1 500-meter race, crossing the finish line in a swift two minutes and 0.78 seconds to clinch the coveted gold medal. Hungary’s Agnes Anna Kiss claimed the silver medal with a time of 2:02.80, while the bronze went to Belarusian Alena Nazdrova, finishing the race in 2:04.80.
Adding to Canada’s success, Brianna Hennessy from Ottawa also shone on Saturday, securing the bronze medal in the KL1 womenâs 200m final with an impressive time of 54.20 seconds. The gold medal was seized by Chilean Paralympic champion Katherinne Wollermann in 52.23 seconds, followed by China’s Maosan Xie who took silver with a time of 53.92 seconds.
