The Las Vegas Aces secured a 93-73 victory over the Toronto Tempo, led by A’ja Wilson’s 27 points and eight rebounds, while Jackie Young contributed 23 points and eight assists without any turnovers. Chelsea Gray added 11 points to the scoreboard. This win came as the Aces played their first game without NaLyssa Smith, sidelined for the rest of the season due to a left leg injury sustained in a previous game against Toronto.
On the Toronto side, Isabelle Harrison tallied 15 points, Laura Juskaite scored 14 points, Kia Nurse added 12 points, and Kiki Rice along with reserve player Kiana Williams each contributed 10 points.
The victory solidified the Aces’ third-place standing in the WNBA playoff race with a one-game lead over Indiana, who also secured a win against Connecticut with a score of 111-91.
Jackie Young’s 3-pointer early in the game set the tone as Las Vegas maintained the lead throughout. The Aces finished the first quarter ahead at 27-17, shooting 50% from the field and making 6-of-12 three-point attempts. Toronto struggled with turnovers, committing nine in the first quarter alone.
Las Vegas continued their strong performance in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a commanding 56-39 lead. Despite a slight drop in three-point shooting efficiency in the second quarter, Las Vegas maintained a 50% overall shooting percentage.
Toronto struggled with fouls in the first half, committing 12 personal fouls, allowing the Aces to capitalize by making 13 of their 14 free throws.
Looking ahead, the Toronto Tempo will face the Phoenix Mercury, while the Aces will take on the Seattle Storm on Thursday, September 17.
