“Team GB Aiming for Record Winter Olympics Medal Haul”

Team GB is aiming for its most successful Winter Olympics at the upcoming Milano Cortina Games. UK Sport, the organization funding Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK, anticipates between four to eight medals in northern Italy. Previously, Team GB achieved its best results at the Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Games with a total of five medals, including one gold. Nevertheless, Team GB’s performance leaders are setting even higher expectations this time around.

The optimism surrounding Team GB’s chances stems from the impressive lineup heading to Italy, which includes world champions, X Games gold medalists, and World Cup podium finishers. In the 2024/25 season, British winter athletes secured nine medals at the World Championships across various sports. British skiers and snowboarders also achieved 28 major podium finishes in Olympic events, claimed three Crystal Globes (World Cup titles), and saw Zoe Atkin clinch a World Championship crown in halfpipe.

Eve Muirhead, the chef de mission who secured curling gold in 2022, emphasized the meticulous preparations for the upcoming Winter Olympics, focusing on creating optimal conditions for athletes to perform at their peak. She highlighted the exceptional potential within the team, expressing confidence in challenging the existing standards.

With high expectations set for Team GB in various disciplines such as men’s skeleton, curling, skiing, and snowboarding, Mirror Sport examines the top contenders for winning medals in Italy. Notably, athletes like Weston, Muir, Brookes, Atkin, Bankes, Fear, and Gibson are among those to watch out for, with strong performances in recent seasons and impressive track records in their respective events.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from February 6-22, offering fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Throughout the games, the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription will provide access to TNT Sports 2, offering continuous Olympic coverage for viewers.
