A significant fire has erupted at a well-known amusement park by the seaside, drawing emergency services to the location.
The incident is currently happening at the popular Ocean Beach Pleasure Park Funfair situated on Sea Road in South Shields.
Footage circulating online displays flames and a large plume of smoke emerging from the building’s roof. The Mirror has reached out to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service as well as Northumbria Police for further details.
According to The Sun, the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields received a £1.2m investment just a few years before the fire.
This investment included the addition of three permanent rides in 2023: the Log Flume, the Crazy Frog Super Jumper, and a Pirate Ship.
Established in 1899, Ocean Beach Pleasure Park is positioned along the South Shields seafront. The amusement park boasts over 40 rides, attractions, and arcades catering to both children and adults. It holds a commendable 4.3 out of 5 rating on Google and a 3.8 out of 5 on Tripadvisor, where it ranks as the eighth best attraction in South Shields.
The A183 Sea Road is currently obstructed in both directions close to Beach Road while fire teams work to contain the inferno.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that crews are addressing a “large fire” at Sea Road.
