A Russian radio station known as UVB-76, also called Russia’s Doomsday Radio or The Buzzer, has surprised listeners by playing music from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Along with the classical piece, the broadcast included an old Soviet song with reportedly modified lyrics referencing an attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, as per Russian publication RU Life.
Listeners tuning in to the station noticed peculiar elements in the broadcast. While the typical “buzzing” sound associated with the station could be faintly heard beneath the Swan Lake music, there were also faint voices audible underneath the melody. The unusual mix of sounds has led to speculation that the station’s frequency may have been tampered with. Although rare, the station has played music on only three occasions in its history.
Reports from Russian media indicate that the station played music last year and in February 2022. This deviation from the usual broadcast pattern of the station has reignited interest among online conspiracy communities.
Swan Lake has historical significance in Russia, often playing during times of crisis or impending events. The ballet became symbolic of the Soviet Union’s collapse after being heavily aired on state TV during the 1991 coup attempt against Gorbachev.
Social media posts from pro-Russia accounts have circulated unverified claims linking the latest broadcast to a potential significant event in Kyiv involving Russian forces. UVB-76, known for its monotonous buzzes since the Cold War era, has generated various theories about its purpose and operators, with many speculating about the Russian military’s involvement.
Despite widespread speculation, the Kremlin has remained silent on the matter. Recently, the station has transmitted cryptic words like Neptune, Thymus, Foxcloak, and Nootabu, puzzling experts. In a notable instance, a coded message preceded a phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
Most recently, additional mysterious code words were heard on December 8 and 10, including ‘PEPPER SHAKER’, ‘TRANSFER’, ‘PABODOLL’, ‘SPINOBAZ’, ‘FRIGORIA’, ‘OPALNY’, ‘SNOPOVY’, and ‘MYUONOSVOD’, leaving observers baffled about their meaning.
