Former World’s Heaviest Man, Juan Pedro Franco, Dies at 41

Juan Pedro Franco, once the heaviest man globally at 92 stone (590kg), has passed away due to a kidney infection at the age of 41 in a hospital in Aguascalientes, Mexico. His death was a result of complications related to the renal infection, according to his doctors. Recognized by Guinness World Records in 2017, Franco garnered worldwide attention for his extreme obesity, which confined him to his bed for years.

Under the care of Dr. José Antonio Castaneda, Franco embarked on a medical program to lose weight, which included a Mediterranean-style diet and two bariatric surgeries. This regimen led to a significant weight loss, enabling Franco to regain mobility after being bedridden for an extended period.

Despite battling COVID-19 in 2020, Franco’s health struggles continued, showcasing the challenges faced by individuals with obesity. His doctor praised Franco for openly sharing his journey, shedding light on the need for long-term compassionate medical support for those dealing with obesity as a chronic condition.

This development marks a significant moment in the ongoing conversation about obesity and the importance of holistic medical care for individuals facing similar challenges.
