Emma Raducanu has expressed her lack of urgency in securing a new long-term coach following her recent split with Francisco Roig earlier this year. Roig, who previously collaborated with Rafael Nadal for 18 years, became Raducanu’s ninth coach and seventh full-time coach to be let go during her career due to differences in playing style.
Since January, Raducanu has been working with her hitting partner, Alexis Canter, and is content with their current arrangement as she prepares for the Indian Wells tournament in California. Although she continues to work with Mark Petchey on a daily basis, his broadcasting commitments prevent him from being available full-time.
Raducanu explained her approach, stating that she is focusing on rediscovering her instincts and returning to her natural playing style, which she believes has been somewhat coached out of her. She emphasized her openness to coaching but is cautious about the pressure and scrutiny that come with bringing in a new coach. Raducanu praised Petchey’s impact on her game, highlighting the valuable insights he provided during their time together.
Looking ahead, Raducanu remains open to exploring coaching options while valuing the freedom to maintain her own playing identity. She acknowledged that finding the perfect coach to align with all her needs might be challenging but expressed her willingness to seek guidance from various sources.
