Anthony Joshua has returned to England after a tragic car accident claimed the lives of two individuals. The British heavyweight boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday night and was later transported to his residence for further recovery, according to reports from The Sun.
The funeral for his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London tomorrow, where family and friends have been invited to attend a ‘janaza prayer service’ in honor of the deceased companions.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral, as concerns have been raised that his presence could potentially attract unwanted attention.
Reports indicate that Joshua narrowly escaped the fatal crash by changing seats just moments before the ill-fated journey that led to the tragic deaths of his friends. Following the incident, Joshua sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Kayode’s legal representative stated that the accident was unintentional, citing alleged brake failure as a contributing factor.
Kayode, aged 46, was driving Joshua and his companions in a black Lexus Jeep when the collision occurred with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. After being discharged from a hospital in Lagos, Kayode was transferred to Abeokuta for further proceedings.
Joshua, upon his release from the hospital, paid his respects to Ghami and Ayodele at a funeral home before their bodies were repatriated to the United Kingdom. The boxer is now in Nigeria, focusing on his recovery process after the tragic incident.
