Aldi has slashed prices on a wide range of products this January, covering fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, household necessities, and personal care items. Among the discounts are red lentils now at 99p from £1.39, porridge sachets at 79p down from 99p, and organic steel-cut oats priced at £1.99 from £2.19. Additionally, beef and pork Bolognese mince is now £4.49 reduced from £4.79, while pork and gammon joints are marked down to £3.49 from £3.99. Shoppers can also find savings on items like sweetcorn at 55p from 59p and large free-range eggs for £1.75 down from £1.79. Various products, including beef flank steak and vegetable pieces, are discounted by 50p.
The price reductions in January represent an investment exceeding £22 million to lower prices. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the continuous effort to provide customers with the best prices without compromising quality. This initiative follows Aldi’s announcement of opening 40 new stores in the UK this year, with a planned investment of £370 million. This expansion is part of a broader two-year investment program totaling £1.6 billion, aiming to achieve 1,500 UK stores in the long run. Aldi’s commitment to offering affordable prices was recognized when it was named the cheapest supermarket in 2025 by Which? consumer rights magazine. Throughout the year, Aldi consistently outperformed competitors, with just a 77p average price difference compared to Lidl. In December, Aldi offered the lowest prices for a list of 68 items, with an average cost of £123.60, closely followed by Lidl at £123.70. Asda and Tesco also trailed behind in pricing for the same items.
