Donald Trump is believed to have exposed a private text message he received from French President Emmanuel Macron just before his threat to impose 200% tariffs on French wine and Champagne. Trump stated that these tariffs would pressure Macron into joining his proposed “Board of Peace.” In response to Macron’s refusal to join the board, Trump dismissed him, suggesting that Macron would soon be out of office and implied that the tariffs on French wines and Champagnes would force him to comply, although participation was not mandatory.
France has indicated that it will not accept the invitation to join the initiative proposed by the US, according to a source close to Macron. Trump later disclosed on Truth Social that Macron had messaged him about Greenland prior to the tariff threats against France. A screenshot revealed Macron agreeing with Trump on issues related to Iran and Syria but expressing confusion about Trump’s intentions concerning Greenland.
The texts supposedly showed Macron proposing a meeting with Trump and other G7 leaders after the World Economic Forum in Davos, followed by an invitation for dinner in Paris on Thursday. The concept of the ‘Board of Peace,’ initially designed to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction post-conflict, has now expanded to a global conflict resolution role, as outlined in an invitation sent to world leaders last week.
A draft inviting around 60 countries to contribute $1 billion in cash for membership lasting more than three years has been circulated. Countries like Australia, Brazil, Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Turkey, and Vietnam have been invited to participate. Additionally, Putin has been extended an invitation, with reports suggesting he is contemplating joining the board.
