The King was accompanied by a new addition to the royal family as he and other members of the Firm participated in a festive event. Charles, aged 77, took the lead as he and his royal relatives attended a Sunday morning church service in Sandringham during their stay in Norfolk for the holiday season. The monarch was seen walking to church with his younger brother Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, alongside Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, who was dressed in a beige coat, a dark brown hat, and boots.
Also present in the royal gathering were Princess Anne and her spouse Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, as well as the King’s cousin, Earl Snowdon, accompanied by his two children, Lady Margarita and Charles Armstrong-Jones. Making a surprise appearance at the service was Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne, along with his fiancée, Harriet Sperling, who sported a festive checked outfit.
Earlier in the week, Peter opted not to join his royal family members, including his sister Zara Tindall, for Christmas, citing his decision to spend the holiday with Harriet Sperling and her family. Harriet, a nurse in the NHS, had reportedly worked during Christmas last year, but this year, the couple chose to have a quiet Christmas away from the public eye. Peter, the King’s eldest nephew, announced his engagement to Harriet in August after a year of dating, making her the upcoming addition to the Royal Family.
