Formula One is expected to cancel the upcoming Grands Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to the ongoing conflict in the region. The races, originally planned for April as part of the 2026 season, will no longer take place. The decision to cancel both events comes after recent developments involving Iran, the USA, and Israel. This change will reduce the current season’s schedule from 24 races to 22.
Both Formula One (F1) and the FIA have not officially commented on the situation yet. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem mentioned on social media that they are closely monitoring the situation and prioritizing safety and well-being in their decision-making process. He expressed solidarity with the affected families and communities, emphasizing the importance of unity during these challenging times.
With the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, there will be no F1 action in April. Teams will face a five-week gap between the Japanese GP and the Miami GP in early May. Currently, F1 is in Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix, where British driver George Russell is set to start on pole for Saturday’s Sprint race. Russell, representing Mercedes, leads the early driver standings with 25 points, ahead of teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
