“Co-op Unveils Plans for 18 New Stores in 2026”

Co-op has revealed plans to launch 18 new or revamped stores within the initial quarter of 2026.

The inaugural new Co-op outlet for 2026 is set to open in the fresh neighborhood development of Willowbrook Park in Didcot, situated in Oxfordshire. Additionally, several stores are slated for reopening post-makeover, including the convenience store in Eastern Green, Coventry, and a franchise-operated site in Ealing, London.

Kate McCrae, the Operations Director at Co-op, emphasized the brand’s commitment to establishing local stores that serve as more than just shopping destinations but also as community hubs that cater to local needs conveniently.

“Our stores prioritize quality products and value for our members and customers, offering a diverse range of deals and promotions on sought-after items,” stated McCrae.

Expressing enthusiasm for the Oxfordshire launch, McCrae highlighted the initiative to enhance Co-op’s footprint across various high streets and communities throughout the UK in 2026.

In related news, Co-op recently announced a significant undertaking to introduce thousands of new apprenticeships in the coming years. Through its Levy Share service, the retail giant has allocated £70 million to generate 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030, allowing levy-paying employers to transfer unused apprenticeship levy funds to support businesses, charities, and community organizations.

Since its inception four years ago, the scheme has facilitated over 3,800 apprenticeships, with a focus on aiding deprived communities and the care sector.

Claire Costello, the Chief People and Inclusion Officer at Co-op, emphasized the transformative impact of the Co-op Levy Share program in repurposing unused levy funds into valuable apprenticeship opportunities.

Costello underscored the commitment to further expand the initiative, pledging £70 million to create additional apprenticeships by 2030. Co-op also urged the collection of socioeconomic background data for apprenticeships to ensure inclusivity and prevent any marginalized groups from being left behind.
