A man who initially believed he had contracted the flu, only to discover a severe underlying condition, has sadly passed away while under hospice care.
Kieran Shingler, aged 26, began experiencing headaches, a sore throat, and a runny nose on Bonfire Night in 2022. Initially dismissing it as the flu or Covid-19, Kieran’s concerns heightened when his appetite vanished. Despite testing negative for Covid-19, Kieran sought medical attention due to his worsening symptoms.
Initially suspected to have meningitis at Warrington Hospital in Cheshire, a CT scan revealed a mass in Kieran’s brain. He was transferred to the Walton Centre in Liverpool, where subsequent tests identified a grade three astrocytoma, a malignant brain tumor. Kieran underwent aggressive treatments, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which initially showed progress. However, a later scan indicated tumor regrowth.
Despite further treatment efforts in Liverpool, Kieran tragically passed away in a Warrington hospice. According to the Liverpool Echo, his partner Abbie fondly remembered Kieran as a kind-hearted individual with a playful nature, beloved by his family and friends.
Kieran, a healthy and active individual from Warrington, fell ill unexpectedly in 2022. Despite being an avid triathlete, persistent headaches led to his diagnosis. The Brain Tumour Charity notes that headaches are a common symptom of brain tumors, affecting up to 60% of individuals with such conditions.
In December 2022, Kieran was given a life expectancy of 12 months but surpassed expectations. Together with Abbie, he initiated a fundraising campaign called “Kieran’s Krew,” raising over £27,000 for brain tumor charities. Sadly, Kieran’s health deteriorated, and he passed away on December 14, prompting an outpouring of condolences online.
Abbie expressed gratitude for the support received and emphasized their commitment to continue fundraising for causes, including St. Rocco’s Hospice in Warrington, where Kieran spent his final days. The couple’s story aims to inspire hope for those facing similar challenges, highlighting the importance of community support during difficult times.
