Riverhead, N.L. locals express joy as a former resident, now a successful businessman, generously donates $100,000 worth of 20 new bunker suits to the Riverhead Volunteer Fire Department. Trent Comerford, owner of T&K Services, shared his pride in giving back to his community, reminiscing about his humble beginnings and the happiness he witnessed on the faces of the recipients.
The donation ceremony, attended by community members, was a celebratory event on Thursday evening. Former Fire Chief Don Boyles emphasized the importance of the donation, as the department’s old suits had passed their expiration date. The firefighters, including Earle Kielly, praised the new suits for their comfort and lighter weight compared to the previous gear. The enhanced protection provided by the updated equipment was well-received by Sheila Lee, a Riverhead resident and Comerford’s former kindergarten teacher, who commended the fire department for their vital role in community safety.
Comerford’s inspiration for the donation stemmed from witnessing the devastation caused by wildfires in neighboring communities last summer. He highlighted the essential contribution of volunteer fire departments to community resilience and urged other businesses in the province to support rural volunteer fire departments. Comerford emphasized the significance of collective efforts in strengthening and uniting the province.
As Riverhead residents express gratitude for Comerford’s generosity, the impact of the donation extends beyond the material value, reinforcing the community’s sense of security and unity.
