Mexican Court Issues Arrest Warrants in Condo Fraud

A Mexican court has issued arrest warrants for a British man, Harry Robinson, and a Mexican woman, Jacqueline Herrera Herrera, accused of deceiving a Canadian couple, Cindy Thompson and Glenn Brown, into investing their retirement funds in a condo-flip scheme in Playa del Carmen. The warrants were issued in late July by a Quintana Roo state court judge. Both individuals are currently seeking to challenge these warrants in a Mexican federal court, as per court documents.

The criminal case against Robinson and Herrera, initiated by the state prosecutor’s office for alleged fraud through deception, is proceeding independently of the federal court process concerning the arrest warrants. The Canadian couple sent $280,000 to a company co-owned by Robinson and Herrera, who promised significant returns on condo investments that never materialized.

Thompson and Brown reported the fraudulent scheme earlier this year, detailing how they were convinced by Robinson and Herrera to invest in real estate opportunities. Despite sending a total of $280,000, they never received the promised returns or access to the properties. Herrera made settlement offers to Thompson, including cash and a commercial property in Cancun, which were declined by the victims.

The legal proceedings have been complex for the Canadian couple, with Thompson expressing frustration over navigating the Mexican judicial system. While a federal court temporarily halted the arrest warrant for Herrera, the legal battle continues for both defendants. Robinson has also accused Herrera of embezzling the funds, adding further layers to the ongoing case.
