Samsung has introduced its latest series of innovative foldable phones, potentially disrupting Apple’s plans. The tech giant from Korea unveiled three new devices, led by the revamped Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a fresh design.
Unlike its predecessors with tall cover screens, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a wider “passport-style” design, offering a unique form factor that transforms when unfolded into a 7.6-inch display resembling a compact tablet for enhanced multimedia experiences.
This launch is significant as Apple is anticipated to release its first foldable iPhone soon, possibly following a similar design trend. Samsung’s early move could give it an edge over its rival.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 stands out with its lightweight and thin build, weighing only 180g. It boasts an improved hinge for durability and a bigger display with Vision Booster technology and anti-reflective coating for better outdoor visibility.
Powered by Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, the device features a 4,800mAh battery that charges rapidly. Additionally, the dual-camera system, Gorilla Glass protection, and advanced Galaxy AI tools enhance the user experience.
Starting at £1,699, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now open for pre-orders, offering a competitive alternative to Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, which could exceed £2,000 in price.
In addition to the Fold 8, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling last year’s Fold 7 but upgraded with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a significant camera enhancement for improved photography and video capabilities.
Featuring a Flex Titanium hinge and a stronger display structure, the Fold 8 Ultra offers enhanced durability, reduced crease, and a smoother unfolding experience. With a larger 5,000mAh battery and quick charging, it starts at £1,899.
Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design while being thinner and lighter. The device features an improved external display, a robust aluminium hinge, enhanced performance, and upgraded camera functionalities, starting at £1,149.
