A tragic incident unfolded on January 2 in Waverly, Tennessee, where a mother allegedly took the lives of her two sons, 88-year-old grandmother, and herself in a quadruple murder-suicide. The father of the sons, Jeremiah Thompson, expressed his devastation over the loss of his family members.
The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office deputies made the grim discovery during a welfare check, finding the four individuals with gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Arius Thompson, Isaiah Johnson, Evelyn Johnson, and Heather Thompson. Authorities stated that Heather was responsible for the deaths before taking her own life.
Jeremiah Thompson, estranged from Heather, shared his grief on social media, emphasizing the profound impact of losing his young sons. Sheriff Chris Davis confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry and no indication of external involvement in the tragic incident. He refrained from disclosing a possible motive as the investigation progressed, mentioning that Evelyn was Heather’s grandmother.
Expressing emotional connection to the family, Sheriff Davis assured that the community would honor and support them during this challenging time. Jeremiah Thompson, a Subway sandwich maker, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to bring his sons back home to New Mexico, raising nearly $11,000 toward his target of $16,000.
In another distressing incident, a young mother avoided prison after admitting to abusing her son. Emma Rigdon pleaded guilty to child neglect charges and received a suspended sentence with probation and mandatory anger management classes as part of her plea deal. The court also ordered her to have no contact with the victim.
These troubling events underscore the need for support and awareness of mental health issues and domestic violence within communities.
