Metropolitan Mayors Support Minneapolis Mayor Amid ICE Shooting Outrage

Last evening, Labour’s metropolitan mayors showed solidarity with the mayor of Minneapolis following the controversial ICE shooting incident that has incited anger in the city.

Mayor Jacob Frey gained attention for his swift reaction to the shooting of Renee Good on Wednesday, bluntly instructing ICE to leave Minnesota.

A video surfaced last night depicting the event from the perspective of the ICE agent, revealing that Good, a mother of three, was steering away from the agent when he shot her three times and used derogatory language towards her.

The released footage, sourced from local website Alpha News, refutes claims made by Donald Trump and JD Vance that Good intended to harm the agent, portraying the incident as self-defense.

Labour’s metropolitan mayors have issued a statement in support of Mayor Frey, highlighting the crucial role mayors play in safeguarding their communities with compassion and facts over fear and aggression.

The statement, endorsed by prominent mayors including Sadiq Khan of London and Andy Burnham of Manchester, emphasizes the protection of dignity and human rights for all residents.

In response to the incident, protesters gathered outside a Minneapolis hotel believed to house ICE agents, disrupting their peace throughout the night.

Contrary to assertions by JD Vance and Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, the new video evidence does not support the claim that the officer acted in self-defense.

Mayor Frey has dismissed any self-defense justifications as baseless.

According to policing experts, while the video did not alter their views on the use of force, it raised concerns about the officer’s training, particularly his actions of filming with a gun in one hand and a cellphone in the other.

The footage suggests that the officers did not perceive Good as a threat, as stated by John P. Gross, a professor specializing in officers shooting at moving vehicles.

The officer involved, Ross, a 43-year-old Iraq War veteran with nearly two decades of service in the Border Patrol and ICE, was previously injured during an immigration arrest last year.
