“Tesco to Expand Clubcard to Under-18s This Year”

Tesco is currently in the process of evaluating a significant revision to its Clubcard program. The Tesco Clubcard offers discounted prices on specific items in stores and enables customers to accumulate points that can later be exchanged for supermarket vouchers.

Previously restricted to individuals aged 18 and above, the loyalty scheme has faced criticism from Which? for being unfair to younger customers, potentially hindering their ability to save money. Tesco has now announced its intention to extend Clubcard membership to those under 18 this year.

A spokesperson from Tesco stated, “We are actively reviewing Tesco Clubcard with the intention of making Clubcard available to under-18s this year.” Reena Sewraz, Which? Retail Editor, emphasized the importance of access to Clubcard benefits for shoppers facing financial challenges.

Clubcard holders earn one point for every £1 spent on groceries in-store or online, as well as one point for every two liters of fuel purchased at Tesco petrol stations.

In other news, Nationwide Building Society has approved the use of electronic signatures for mortgage deeds in England and Wales, eliminating the need for witnesses. This move follows the Land Registry’s acceptance of electronic signatures in the mortgage application process, aimed at expediting home purchases.

The state pension age is set to increase from 66 to 67, starting in April and completing by 2028. Individuals born between certain dates will be affected by the gradual rise in the pension age, with implications on when they can begin claiming their state pension.

Asda faced a £500,000 fine for selling expired food items in one of its UK stores. The supermarket has since implemented enhanced date checking procedures across all its stores to ensure product freshness.

Grandparents providing childcare during the February half-term could potentially enhance their state pension by £6,600 through Specified Adult Childcare Credits, aiding in filling gaps in their National Insurance record.

Several councils have been granted permission to increase council tax by more than 5%, including Shropshire, Worcestershire, North Somerset, Trafford, Warrington, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole Council.

Retail sales surged by 2.7% in January, driven by delayed Christmas spending and increased demand during the New Year sales period. Food sales saw a 3.8% rise compared to the previous year, while non-food sales increased by 1.7%. The retail sector experienced significant growth in various categories, with a strong start to the year.
