The Home Alone house owners have promised to restore the property following criticism over recent renovations. Situated at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois, near Chicago, the iconic house from the 1990 film is undergoing changes to return it to its original charm.
Known as a significant element in Home Alone, Kevin McCallister, portrayed by Macaulay Culkin, famously set up traps to thwart burglars Harry Lyme and Marv Murchins. However, fans were disappointed when the property underwent expansion in 2018, altering its appearance to a more minimalist style.
New owners have taken on the task of preserving the house’s essence. Scott Price, the current homeowner who acquired the property for $5.25 million (£3.88 million) earlier this year, expressed his vision of restoring the warmth and familial feel depicted in the movie. The plan is to reintroduce the vibrant colors and cozy atmosphere that characterized the original setting.
Built in 1921, the over 100-year-old house boasts five bedrooms, six bathrooms, an indoor basketball court, a home cinema, and a poker room. Additionally, Lego has paid tribute to the residence by creating a miniature brick replica of the iconic building.
In a unique collaboration last year, the house owners partnered with Airbnb to offer fans an overnight stay experience, complete with recreated traps, themed meals, and interactions with a real tarantula. The event, hosted by Devin Ratray, who played Buzz McCallister, coincided with the release of the Disney+ reboot, “Home Sweet Home Alone.”
Macaulay Culkin, reflecting on his role in Home Alone, revealed that his children are unaware of his past as a movie star.
