Matt Lucas to Receive OBE in New Year’s Honours

Matt Lucas is set to be honored with an OBE in the upcoming New Year’s Honours list. Various celebrities and sports personalities will also be recognized with special titles, including Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who will become a Dame and a Knight, respectively. Matt, a 51-year-old comedy performer, will also receive a prestigious title for his longstanding contributions to entertainment.

Upon learning about his OBE, Matt expressed disbelief and shared that he initially thought it might be a practical joke. His recognition comes alongside numerous other notable individuals as King Charles III reveals the full list of honorees.

In a statement to the Press Association, Matt expressed his shock and mentioned that the news had not fully sunk in yet. His comedy partner, David Walliams, received an OBE in 2017 for his contributions to the arts and charity work, including raising millions for Sport Relief through long-distance swims.

Other notable figures on the honours list include Phil Spencer, set to receive an MBE for his charitable work with homeless charity St Mungo’s, and Paul Chuckle of the Chuckle Brothers, who will be honored with an MBE for his charity endeavors following the passing of his brother Barry.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, renowned for their ice-skating prowess at the 1984 Winter Olympics, will also be acknowledged for their voluntary efforts. The duo will receive prestigious titles, with Torvill becoming a Dame and Dean a Knight.

In recent events, David Walliams has faced a decline in popularity due to a series of controversies. These include losing his position on BGT for inappropriate comments and being dropped by his publisher over misconduct allegations. Despite denying any wrongdoing, David’s reputation has suffered, leading to public backlash.

The BBC faced criticism for featuring David in a Christmas special of Would I Lie To You? where he allegedly made a Nazi salute. The broadcaster defended its decision to air the episode but stated that no future projects involving David were planned.

Moreover, the BBC aired short film adaptations of two of David’s books, Mr Stink and The Boy In The Dress, on the CBBC channel. These adaptations were part of the network’s programming despite the controversies surrounding the author.
