Boxing icon Anthony Joshua has been released from the hospital after being under observation for minor injuries sustained in a recent car crash that tragically took the lives of two of his close friends. The authorities in Lagos and Ogun states confirmed that Joshua, aged 36, has been discharged and is now continuing his recovery at his residence.
The accident occurred when the vehicle Joshua was traveling in collided with a stationary truck near Lagos, resulting in the fatalities of his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Joshua and his mother paid their respects at a funeral home before the friends’ bodies were repatriated to the UK.
In a statement, it was announced that Anthony Joshua left the hospital in the late afternoon, expressing deep sadness for the loss of his friends but being deemed clinically fit to recuperate at home. The post also conveyed gratitude towards the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for their exceptional care.
Following the incident, Nigerian authorities initiated a search for the lorry driver involved in the crash. Although the driver is still being sought, the vehicle has been located at the Sagamu car pound, showing significant damage from the collision.
Anthony Joshua, who hails from Watford with Nigerian heritage, was vacationing in Nigeria after his recent victory against Jake Paul in Miami. Despite sustaining minor injuries in the accident, Joshua managed to escape serious harm, according to the police.
Police investigations revealed that the truck was illegally parked before the collision, leading to questions about the driver’s responsibility. The driver of Joshua’s car has also been discharged from the hospital and may face charges for reckless driving.
A spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force mentioned that Joshua’s driver has been discharged and is cooperating with authorities by providing his statement.
