Black smoke was seen rising from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York (JFK) following a fire that occurred in the airside area of the facility. Social media posts captured a plume of black smoke near Terminal 8, with emergency crews responding to the scene. A video clip depicted thick black smoke emerging from behind a security fence at the airport, resulting from a vehicle fire reported around 7:25 am local time or 12:25 UK time.
An American Airlines tow truck caught fire, as confirmed by the airport spokesperson, and was promptly extinguished by the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting team. Fortunately, there were no injuries or disruptions reported. The incident was timestamped at 7:46 am Eastern Standard Time, translating to approximately 12:46 pm GMT.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, an online video clip suggested the involvement of a vehicle, possibly an emergency services car, near some gates. Images from the Citizen app showcased plumes of black smoke rising from the area inside JFK airport. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
