Local election officials across the U.S. have raised doubts about the feasibility of complying with the new rules, emphasizing that no state currently conducts elections in the manner outlined by Trump’s order. The dismantling of the Federal Election Assistance Commission earlier this year further complicates the voting landscape, with mail-in ballots accounting for 29% of votes cast in the 2024 midterms.
