US President Donald Trump has revealed plans for advancing the Israel-Palestine peace initiative by instituting a “Board of Peace for Gaza.” This board, a key component of the 20-point peace proposal by Trump, will oversee a technocratic government in Gaza, as part of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas from last October. Trump, in a statement on his Truth Social platform, announced the board’s formation to manage an interim administration for Gaza’s rebuilding phase.
Additionally, the President has stated that US representatives will negotiate a comprehensive demilitarization pact with Hamas to ensure the permanent disarmament of the group. The board is expected to consist of around 10-15 leaders from various countries, with former UN Middle East envoy Nickolay Mladenov playing a crucial role on the ground in Gaza.
Trump emphasized the progress made in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza post-ceasefire, setting the groundwork for the next phase. He expressed confidence in the newly appointed Palestinian Technocratic Government and the Board’s High Representative to govern Gaza during the transition period. The President highlighted the commitment of Palestinian leaders to a peaceful future with the support of Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar to reach a comprehensive Demilitarization Agreement with Hamas.
The announcement of the “Board of Peace” marks a significant step in Trump’s peace plan, serving as an oversight body for Gaza’s transitional administration during the reconstruction phase following the ceasefire. Despite challenges, including the unresolved issue of the final hostage’s remains in Gaza, Trump’s administration is resolute in moving forward with the peace plan’s implementation.
