Toronto Hydro has announced that power has been successfully restored to numerous areas in the east end and parts of downtown Toronto following an outage that lasted over an hour on Wednesday night. The utility confirmed the restoration of power at 10:30 p.m. via a post on the social media platform X.
Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused by the outage, Toronto Hydro expressed gratitude for the patience and cooperation of customers and the community during the restoration efforts. The outage, affecting more than 31,000 customers as of 9:40 p.m., was attributed to a loss of supply from Hydro One.
During the outage, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) noted disruptions to elevators and escalators at several Line 2 subway stations. Toronto Metropolitan University also reported a power failure at multiple buildings, prompting immediate evacuations and advisories to avoid the affected areas.
Buildings including Eric Palin Hall, Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre for Studies in Community Health, Rogers Communications Centre, Pitman Hall, International Living/Learning Centre, and Kerr Hall at the Toronto Campus were impacted by the outages. Concerns for compromised safety systems led to the evacuation of each building, with classes, labs, and exams suspended until power was fully restored. Employees were advised to seek alternative workspaces or take breaks nearby until the situation was resolved.
