“Timpson Introduces Phone Trade-In Service Nationwide”

Timpson, a popular shoe repair chain, has introduced a new service allowing customers to trade in their mobile phones. Partnering with gadget resell company musicMagpie and its parent company AO, Timpson now offers a quick cash exchange for unwanted handsets at their stores.

Recent research indicates that 73% of adults in the UK own at least one unused smartphone at home, with an average trade-in value of approximately £250. The total value of unused smartphones nationwide is estimated to be around £10 billion.

While there are numerous online options for reselling devices, Timpson aims to cater to individuals who prefer in-person transactions, although other similar high street options are available as well. A survey revealed that 68% of people prefer trading in their devices face-to-face, with one in four emphasizing the importance of immediate payment.

The trade-in service, initially trialed by Timpson and musicMagpie four months ago, has now been expanded to over 1,300 Timpson stores across the UK. John Roberts, CEO of AO World, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the convenience of receiving instant cash for old smartphones at Timpson locations.

Steve Oliver, managing director of musicMagpie, noted the significant milestone of incorporating Magpie services into Timpson’s extensive network, enhancing convenience for customers. Sid Hubbard, Timpson’s group director, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing excellent service and expanding their offerings to include smartphone trade-ins.

The collaboration between musicMagpie and Timpson aims to leverage refurbishment expertise and a widespread network to help customers unlock the value of their old tech promptly, making devices more affordable and sustainable.
