Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces launched a prolonged assault on Kyiv and other cities, targeting ports, industrial sites, and retailers’ distribution centers with a combination of missiles and drones. Commuters in the capital were greeted by the sounds of air defense systems engaging multiple drone attacks following an overnight bombardment that included ballistic missiles and 258 drones, according to Ukraine’s military.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia conducted a significant strike on Ukraine, hitting ports, grain storage facilities, energy plants, and various infrastructure using ballistic and hypersonic missiles along with combat drones. The Ukrainian military claimed to have successfully intercepted seven ballistic missiles, showcasing an improved success rate possibly attributed to the recent acquisition of U.S.-made Patriot interceptors, which are designed to counter fast-moving ballistic missiles.
In response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces have targeted Russian infrastructure, including a logistics complex operated by online retailer Ozon in Ufa. Ukraine has been focusing on disrupting e-commerce giants like Wildberries and Ozon that are believed to support Russia’s military efforts.
Ukraine received additional support from allies such as Britain, which pledged classified technology to assist in the production of Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Moscow issued a warning that it could target British military assets inside and outside Ukraine in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes using British weaponry.
The city of Kyiv and other areas experienced air-raid sirens throughout the day as attack drones flew over neighborhoods, causing injuries to several individuals. In Kharkiv, a shopping center attack resulted in one fatality and two injuries. Additionally, Ukrainian retailers COMFY and a leading toy company reported the destruction of their distribution centers, while Roshen, a prominent chocolate manufacturer, confirmed the destruction of one of its warehouses near Kyiv.
Russian strikes extended to various regions including Poltava, Odesa, and Kryvyi Rih, impacting industrial sites, energy facilities, and critical infrastructure. Trains were delayed across multiple regions, leaving passengers stranded. Moldovan authorities condemned the violation of their airspace by six Russian drones, with one drone being discovered within Moldovan territory.
