A protester in Minneapolis reportedly bit off a finger of a Homeland Security agent on the same day that a federal officer shot and killed an American citizen. Shortly after a video surfaced showing the death of Alex Pretti at the hands of a Border Patrol agent, Department of Homeland Security officials stated that an officer would lose a finger due to an attack by a protester.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, shared on social media that during the riots in Minneapolis, law enforcement officers were attacked, resulting in one of them having their finger bitten off by an HSI officer. The injured officer is expected to lose the finger.
The incident occurred following a contentious response from Donald Trump regarding the fatal shooting of the American citizen by a federal agent. The individuals involved in the finger-biting incident have not been identified. The exact cause of the altercation that led to the finger being bitten off remains unknown, but unrest appears to be escalating throughout the city.
Earlier on the same day, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old American citizen and ICU nurse, was fatally shot by a federal agent. Although Pretti was armed and had a valid license, Homeland Security claimed that he violently resisted disarmament and was carrying a 9mm semi-automatic handgun with two magazines.
Despite Homeland Security’s assertion that Pretti was armed, details surrounding the shooting remain murky. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the shooting by federal agents and urged President Donald Trump to remove the purportedly violent and untrained officers from Minnesota. This incident followed the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on January 7, prompting nationwide protests.
