“Over 100-Vehicle Pileup in Michigan After Snowstorm”

A massive collision involving over 100 vehicles occurred due to heavy snowfall, leading to chaos on the roads in the United States. The incident took place in Michigan on Monday, January 19, following a snowstorm that covered the state. As a result of the extensive pileup, the Michigan State Police closed Interstate 196 just southwest of Grand Rapids.

The removal operation involved more than 30 trucks, and although several injuries were reported, fortunately, there were no fatalities. A driver involved in the crash, Pedro Mata Jr., described how visibility was extremely limited as snow was blowing across the road, causing cars to slide at speeds of 20-25 mph before the collision.

Mata managed to bring his pickup truck to a stop safely but then decided to move it off the road to the median to avoid being rear-ended. He mentioned feeling scared hearing the crashes behind him and not being able to see what was happening behind his vehicle.

Weather alerts have been issued nationwide as a winter storm disrupts normal conditions. The storm is predicted to affect multiple states, starting from northern Minnesota and extending south and east into Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.

Forecasters have warned of subzero temperatures in north-central Florida and southeast Georgia overnight on Monday. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s office in Michigan received reports of numerous accidents and vehicles sliding off the road.

Drivers found themselves stranded, with bus services transporting them to Hudsonville High School for assistance. The road closure is expected to last several hours as crews work on cleaning up the area.

Multiple towing companies, including Grand Valley Towing, have dispatched over a dozen trucks to assist in clearing the aftermath of the chain-reaction crash. The manager of Grand Valley emphasized the urgency of clearing the vehicles quickly to reopen the road for traffic.
