The Montreal Roses made a significant decision to relieve their inaugural head coach, Robert Rositoiu, from his duties following their exit from the W Canadian Championship. Marinette Pichon, the club’s sporting director, announced the coaching change in a press release on Thursday, expressing gratitude to Rositoiu for his foundational role in establishing the professional women’s soccer team.
Acknowledging the difficulty of parting ways with a coach, Pichon emphasized the need for a fresh perspective to propel the club forward for the remainder of the season and its continued growth. Despite holding the second spot in the Northern Super League (NSL) with 27 points and 10 remaining regular-season matches, the Roses deemed the coaching adjustment necessary.
Robert Rositoiu assumed the head coach position in September 2024 in preparation for the Roses’ debut season in the NSL in 2025. As the club seeks a permanent replacement for Rositoiu, Maryse Bard-Martel, the team’s former first assistant coach and head of goalkeeping, will step in as the interim head coach. Bard-Martel’s first task will be overseeing the upcoming match against AFC Toronto.
