Labour Party Member & Ex-Special Forces Colonel Slams Farage for Anti-Troop Deployment Stance

A member of the Labour Party and former special forces colonel criticized Nigel Farage for opposing the deployment of troops to Ukraine, stating that such a stance weakens Britain. Al Carns, who received the Military Cross in 2011, emphasized the importance of defending democracy beyond national borders for the country’s national security. Drawing on his experience in Afghanistan, Carns highlighted the potential impact of Farage’s position, suggesting it aligns more with Russian interests.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed readiness to send troops to Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached. This multinational force aims to deter future Russian aggression, with UK MPs set to vote on the matter.

Farage’s recent comments, made during a radio appearance, prompted strong criticism from Carns in an article for The Mirror. Carns stressed the significance of collective security and accused Farage of neglecting the responsibility to support Ukraine in a time of need, labeling his stance as a failure of leadership.

Carns also pointed out the conviction of Nathan Gill, a former leader of Reform in Wales, for promoting pro-Russian propaganda, linking it to Farage’s position. Plans include establishing military hubs in Ukraine with France and fortifying facilities for defense purposes. Additionally, US support under Donald Trump’s envoy signals a commitment to upholding security guarantees for Ukraine.

Starmer welcomed the unity among European and American allies in supporting peace efforts, emphasizing the challenges ahead. Former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov acknowledged the strategic impact of the joint declaration, leaving uncertainty around Putin’s next moves.

Carns urged British citizens to recognize the gravity of the situation and emphasized the need for resolute leadership in defending democracy. The evolving support from international allies underscores a collective effort to ensure peace in Ukraine amidst escalating tensions.
