“Gordie Howe Bridge Sees Surge in Cross-Border Traffic”

Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, commenced operations on July 27 after facing delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the U.S. through the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days of its operation. Additionally, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada via the same bridge during the same timeframe. Comparatively, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel witnessed a total of 52,700 crossings by Canadians and U.S. residents in the same time period. StatCan also noted that 4,100 commercial trucks traveled to Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
