A crowdfunding initiative has been launched to support the family of a young child who tragically passed away after accidentally falling into a pond on Christmas Day.
The toddler, Isobel, aged 2, was discovered in a garden pond shortly after wandering away from her family’s residence in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Despite immediate efforts to save her, Isobel was declared deceased at a nearby hospital.
Following the heartbreaking incident, a GoFundMe campaign was set up by a relative named Abigail Maxwell, which has already collected around £20,000 of its £30,000 target. The funds raised will be allocated towards covering funeral expenses, providing counseling, and establishing a memorial garden in honor of Isobel.
Expressing deep sorrow, the GoFundMe page stated, “The entire family and everyone acquainted with Isobel… we are all utterly devastated. This is an unimaginable tragedy for parents, losing their child. Isobel was a joyous and cherished child, and her parents provided her with a beautiful life.”
Furthermore, the page revealed, “We were enjoying a family gathering. Our daughters, best friends, were happily playing with their new toys in various areas of the house. Regrettably, Isobel briefly went missing and during that time, she wandered into the garden and fell into the pond. The presence of the pond was unintended, resulting from the family’s recent move to their forever home that was still under renovation.”
The pond, which was surrounded by a temporary fence, had been installed as a temporary measure after the family relocated to the property. Abigail emphasized, “It was a fenced-off pond in a section of the garden inaccessible to Isobel. A tragic and unforeseen accident.”
Despite receiving CPR until the arrival of medical assistance, Isobel could not be revived. Abigail expressed, “My daughter’s dearest friend. No words can describe this, and nobody should endure this, especially not them.”
Isobel’s parents, Tamara and Aaron, aim to establish a commemorative garden in her memory. The GoFundMe page highlighted Tamara’s grieving process, particularly as she is 25 weeks pregnant and will require emotional and psychological support to cope with the loss and prepare for the arrival of Isobel’s baby brother.
