Céline Dion, a renowned recording artist with numerous awards and a musical legend, is now being honored with a special Barbie doll. However, the doll’s resemblance to the Canadian singer has sparked criticism among some fans.
The doll, part of Mattel’s Barbie Signature Series, celebrates notable figures in various fields like fashion, arts, and sports. Past dolls in this collection have honored personalities such as Miley Cyrus, Whitney Houston, and Venus and Serena Williams.
Inspired by Dion’s 1998 Academy Awards performance of “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie “Titanic,” the limited-edition doll captures her iconic look from that event. Dion expressed her gratitude for being immortalized in Barbie form, emphasizing the importance of self-expression and believing in one’s potential.
Although fans appreciated the tribute, many voiced disappointment over the doll’s facial likeness, despite its $90 price tag. Some social media comments highlighted that the doll resembled other figures like Lisa Rinna or Princess Diana rather than Dion herself.
In a recent concert comeback, Dion returned to the stage after a six-year hiatus due to a health condition. Diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a neurological disorder causing pain and muscle spasms, Dion made a triumphant return to performing with a series of highly anticipated shows planned until 2027.
