The Canadian senior women’s basketball team dominated the Philippines with a resounding 85-38 victory at the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament held in Guadalajara, Mexico. Yvonne Ejim led Canada with 19 points while Syla Swords contributed 15 points to the win.
Canada swiftly took control of the game, establishing a commanding 23-4 lead in the first quarter at Arena Astros, eventually extending their advantage to 46-11 by halftime. The tournament, featuring eight teams, will run until Sunday.
Having previously defeated Senegal 72-57 in their tournament opener on Monday, Canada is set to face host Mexico in their next match on Thursday. The ultimate victor of the tournament will secure a spot in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments scheduled for February 2028.
