Canada’s women’s flag football team secured the world championship title against the United States at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championships held in Düsseldorf, Germany. In an impressive display, the women’s team triumphed over the Americans with a final score of 27-20 after defeating Mexico in the semifinals. Frederique Morneau’s exceptional performance included three touchdown catches, with quarterback Sara Parker connecting with Caroline Moquin-Joubert for Canada’s additional score. Parker, who delivered a total of 23 touchdown passes, was honored as the most valuable player of the women’s tournament.
On the same day, the Canadian men’s team clinched their spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics by defeating Mexico 34-26 in the third-place game. Quarterback Michael O’Connor led the charge with 294 yards and five touchdowns, while former NFL tight end Antony Auclair contributed significantly with 149 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions from O’Connor. Daniel Petermann and James Drysdale also scored for the Canadian men’s team.
With both the Canadian women’s and men’s teams earning victories, they will represent Canada at the LA28 Olympics. This achievement is especially significant as flag football will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles. The qualification for the Olympics underscores the dedication and hard work put in by the athletes, as highlighted by Canada’s head coach Paul LaPolice.
