BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for an unexpected enhancement as BT Mobile is set to re-enter the market after suspending new customer registrations in 2023. The company had previously focused on its EE network brand, but now it is shifting gears to reintroduce BT-branded SIM deals to existing broadband customers.
Although specific details are yet to be disclosed, this move indicates BT’s desire to reinforce the presence of its well-established brand, which had taken a back seat to EE in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is committed to revitalizing BT’s standing among UK households, aiming to prevent the brand from diminishing in public awareness.
Kirkby emphasized the company’s increased investments in networks, signaling a strategic focus on enhancing brands, products, and services during an event at Wembley. The relaunch will position BT in direct competition with major players like Vodafone and O2, as well as budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
While pricing details are pending, BT plans to offer bundled services including broadband, landline, and mobile SIM under a unified package and monthly billing system. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this move as an effort to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecom market, highlighting the importance of network resilience and trust.
BT also announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be hosted in the UK and Ireland. Pescatore emphasized the significance of brand engagement and the UEFA Euro 2028 deal as a substantial opportunity to demonstrate scale, relevance, and service delivery in connecting with users, households, and businesses.
Sport, Pescatore noted, has a unique ability to unify nations and create shared emotional moments, offering a platform for building strong connections beyond what traditional means can achieve.
