Australian Man Killed, Woman Critical After Bali Scooter Crash

An Australian man has tragically passed away, and a woman is in critical condition after a devastating scooter collision. Bryce Alexander Black and Samantha Baillie, a couple from New South Wales Central Coast, were involved in a head-on crash with a car while riding a scooter in North Kuta, Bali, around 4:30 am on Sunday. Regrettably, Mr. Black, a father, lost his life at the scene on Petitenget Street, as reported by Bali Legals.

Ms. Baillie, a mother of two, was swiftly taken to the hospital in critical condition. A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe was initiated by her friend Savannah-Leigh Homer, indicating that the family is enduring an incredibly challenging period. According to Ms. Homer, Ms. Baillie sustained severe injuries, including a fractured skull with brain bleeding, multiple broken fingers, pelvis and hand injuries, and extensive foot injuries, leading to a long and uncertain recovery journey.

Ms. Homer mentioned that this trip was Ms. Baillie’s first overseas venture, arriving in Bali just a day before the tragic accident, meant to mark a joyful milestone in her life. She and Ms. Baillie’s mother have flown to Bali to manage escalating medical expenses and coordinate her return to Australia.

“We have already covered $6000 for her initial medical care, and now face an additional medical bill of $52,000, with more expenses anticipated,” Ms. Homer explained. The fundraiser had amassed $51,536 by 9:30 pm GMT on Friday.

Online tributes for Mr. Black have been pouring in, expressing shock and offering condolences to his and Ms. Baillie’s families. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responsible for assisting Australians abroad, confirmed its support for both families, extending deepest sympathies during this challenging period.
