Teenager’s Remains Found in Prince Albert Woods

Human remains were discovered by Prince Albert police on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager last seen in June. The search, aided by the city’s public works and fire departments, along with Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, led to the recovery of the body in the vicinity of the 300 block of 40th Street East, as stated in a police news release. An autopsy is set for Tuesday to establish the identity of the individual and ascertain the cause and circumstances of death.

During a news interview with CBC News, the mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, mentioned that authorities informed her they believe the body belongs to her daughter. The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are collaborating on the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death, as reported by the police.

On a preceding day, a joint news conference involving the police, Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents appealed to the public for any information that could assist in locating her. The last known sighting of Flett was reported on June 16 or 17 in the vicinity of Marquis Road and Central Avenue near Northern Lights Casino.

Law enforcement personnel are currently present at the discovery site, conducting inquiries in a wooded area near 40th Street. Temporary traffic restrictions are in effect, and the public is urged to steer clear of the area. Updates will be shared as new information emerges.
