Four individuals implicated in a London, Ontario investigation involving explosives and firearms manufacturing are now confronting 19 additional charges, as per court records submitted on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. All four individuals were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male trio having pursued studies within the engineering faculty. The updated set of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice now brings the total counts to 31, encompassing collective charges against all four and specific accusations against certain individuals.
The fresh charges entail possession of five distinct explosive materials, possession of stolen items, and accessing computer data associated with firearm production. The investigation, which commenced on Jan. 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University, led law enforcement to a residence in the University Heights area where the suspects were apprehended. Subsequent to a thorough search of the household at 212 Chesham Place where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, police also inspected additional properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau.
Initially apprehended on various firearms-related charges, including the manufacture of a handgun and possession of a loaded restricted handgun, Tong, Wang, and Ji now face additional accusations such as possession of firearm accessories, handling prohibited firearms, and improper firearm storage. Tong faces a bulk of the charges, including allegations from incidents in other cities, such as storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized site in Quebec.
Wang, on the other hand, is now charged with weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, in addition to breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025. The accused individuals are also confronted with a fresh slate of charges pertaining to the possession of explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. Furthermore, Wang faces an independent charge of accessing computer data relevant to firearms, specifically design files for manufacturing devices using a 3D printer or metal milling machine.
In total, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13. Two of the accused are currently on bail while two remain in custody. Tong opted not to seek bail and is detained. Han was denied bail and remanded in February. Wang was granted bail in March under strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest with supervision from two sureties, each posting $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
