“Markham Makes IndyCar History with New Track Layout”

Markham is gearing up for an exciting weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series, along with other motorsports series, for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, featuring a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.

Spectators attending the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy are advised to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or take Highway 407 to reach the event venue. Parking will be available west of the grounds, with expanded Stouffville Line service by Metrolinx for easy access.

Road closures have been in effect in Markham due to track construction, impacting various areas including Unionville GO station. Several roads such as Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, and others will remain closed until Monday morning, with some restrictions extending until Aug. 27 for track dismantling.

The main event, IndyCar racing, is set for Sunday with Spaniard Alex Palou leading the points and favored to win. Notable contenders include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talents like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also compete in support series races.

Drivers have praised the new Markham track layout, highlighting its smooth surface and unique challenges. Tickets for the event are available for Saturday and Sunday, with Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions free for the public as part of Fan Friday, promoting donations to Make-A-Wish Canada.
