“150 Corgis Compete in International Corgi Race Vilnius”

Approximately 150 corgis came together for an international event celebrating the beloved herding dogs that originated in Wales. Beyond showcasing their short-legged agility, the Corgi Race Vilnius featured a variety of activities such as a costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge, and a competition to determine the loudest bark.

This year’s event in Vingis Park, Lithuania, marked the largest gathering yet, attracting participants from nine countries including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, where the breed is famously associated with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the event’s growth, noting that from its modest beginnings with 40 corgis from a single city, this year saw 150 dogs from various countries, including the breed’s homeland. The competition featured 94 dogs in the running events, culminating in an exciting final race where American competitor GG, also known as Gustave the Girl Dog, emerged as the winner over a 25-meter course.

In addition to the racing excitement, the event also celebrated the talents and creativity of the corgis and their owners. A costume parade featured 38 corgis in unique outfits, with Amigo winning both the jury and public vote for a knight-inspired ensemble. The “smartest nose” challenge saw Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty sharing the victory in finding hidden treats.

Moreover, the competition included a lively loudest bark contest, won by Mr. Corgington, a prominent contender hailing from the United States. Despite not participating in the main race due to age, 12-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi Duke from England showcased his bark after a lifetime of training.

The event brought together both newcomers and veteran participants, with half of this year’s corgis debuting in the competition. Notable attendees, including costume winner Amigo, Foksas, Foksis, Madeira, Bulka, and Dziugas, have been loyal participants in every edition of the event, adding to the tradition and excitement of the Corgi Race Vilnius.
